Financial Support

Financial Support

Changes in the economy have had an impact on people's finances. There is support for residents in severe financial hardship and who can't afford necessities to live. Support could be through internal schemes or referrals to external support including grants.

Charitable and Hardship Support in Camden

This guidance sets out the main charities and grants that Camden residents can apply to for financial or practical support. It is intended as a quick reference for Social Care practitioners when advising clients.

Practice tips for Social Care practitioners:

  • Check postcode carefully: Most Camden-based trusts are restricted to specific catchment areas. You can check this Camden Grants Map map showing the catchment areas of each charity.
  • Professional referrals: Many charities require applications from professionals – ensure client gives consent and provide supporting information (income, benefits, household situation).
  • Manage expectations: Grants are usually one-off and modest, intended to meet urgent needs (e.g. white goods, beds, fuel costs).
  • Explore multiple routes: If one trust is closed or unsuitable, try RSF, Turn2Us, or sector-specific charities.
  • Record-keeping: Keep a record of referrals and outcomes to support future applications.

Check here for a summary of what each charity offers and what documentation they require.
