Benefits and Welfare Rights
The Welfare Rights (Adult Social Care) Team is made up of four full time advisors who support with:
- giving benefits advice
- helping with the claims process
- helping to challenge incorrect decisions and representing people during the appeal process
Welfare Rights Referral criteria
The Welfare Rights Team offer benefits advice to residents of any tenure who are either elderly, chronically sick or disabled . The team also helps people who cannot access other advice centres or mainstream services due to physical or mental health.
The team has an officer who can support the Bangladeshi community and their carers who are older, disabled or have a health condition.
Referrals to Welfare Rights can be made through the Camden Welfare Rights web form. Practitioners will need to provide reasons why a person cannot access other advice agencies for support.
Support available for people ineligible for Welfare Rights Service
If the Welfare Rights team is not able to accept a referral, there is other support available from the Camden Advice Network. The network is made up of 12 organisations and they may be able to help with benefits, debt, and other financial/legal support.
The Welfare Rights Team does not support people with challenges related to debt. If someone needs support or advice around debt, please refer them to Wish Plus or to the Camden Advice Network.
If an individual lacks capacity to manage their benefits, a best interest decision may be to apply for an Appointeeship. For more guidance about this process, see the information about Appointeeships and the Personal Finance Service.
If you have any further questions about benefits or how the Welfare Rights team can support, you can contact the Welfare Rights Service Manager, [email protected]
