Quick guidance on key safes for social care practitioners

Key Safes

A key safe is a strong mechanical metal box that securely stores a spare key inside for use by an authorised visitor to enter an individual's home. Key safes can be provided for anyone requiring access to an individual's property, when it is evidenced that it has become problematic for the individual to answer the door.

Ordering a key safe

While we transition to our new community equipment provider, Careline are overseeing the installation of all key safes for Camden residents.  Please note that due to limited capacity, Careline can only process urgent requests for key safes (e.g. to facilitate hospital discharge or to enable a carer to access a property to provide support).

To send a referral to careline for the installation of a key safe, please complete the below form and email it to [email protected]

Key Safe Referral Form.

It is the prescriber’s responsibility to coordinate who is the person responsible for setting the key safe code. Careline will install the key safe on the wall and leave it open. The code can be input on Mosaic in case it is forgotten – a number of security questions will be asked before the code is given out; date of birth, address etc.

Consideration will be needed as to who would need access to the code i.e. individual, community nurse, home care worker, family member, care manager, warden etc. (minimum number possible for security).
