Confirming staff credentials procedure
Purpose
This procedure describes the steps that Staff seeking access to an individual’s premises should take to enable their identity to be confirmed.

Process
Any customer wishing to confirm the identity of any staff member should be entitled to do so.
Customers should be entitled to hold the staff ID card and check the picture on the card for likeness with the individual in front of them and other details on the card.
Customers should be entitled to contact Careline to check that the ID card is genuine and not stolen or mislaid. London Borough of Camden contact number is shown on the back of the card.
- If asked by the customer, the staff should give their ID card to the customer for checking and verification of staff identity.
- Once the customer has finished checking staff should ask the customer to return their ID card.
- If the customer refuses to return the ID card the employee should repeat the request.
- Ultimately, if the staff member is unable to obtain the return of their ID card, they should report its loss immediately in line with Council’s procedure.
- Notify member of management team on return to the control centre.
