Call Handling
Smoke detector incidents
Purpose
This procedure describes the actions to be taken by staff called to attend premises following activation of a smoke detector.
Responsibility
All staff
Process
The control room will respond to smoke detectors by immediately calling the London Fire Brigade (LFB). If however the customer says that it is a false alarm and after looking at their medical history Careline has no reason to doubt what they are saying, the Fire Brigade will not be called. They will call the LFB for 2nd and subsequent calls.
- The contact centre will also check the mobility of the customer; if they recognise that the customer could be endangered by lack of mobility they will notify the LFB.
- For customers on a scheme - if the smoke detector is faulty, the contact centre will notify the relevant contractor. Who will either park or disable the smoke detector until they are able to respond (which should be the same day).
- For dispersed customers – once it has been established that the alarm is faulty then it must be replaced at the earliest convenient time by either the response team or one of the installation team.
