About the Academy

The Academy is here to support practitioners to develop their practice, expand their knowledge and skills and plan their career in the many different roles within the Directorate. We aim to work in partnership with every service within the Children and Learning Directorate to ensure the whole workforce has opportunities for learning and career development within their sector.

The Children and Learning Academy oversees the development of the children's workforce in Camden, making sure that our staff are supported to get the skills and knowledge needed to be responsive to the needs of children and families in the borough.

The Academy is responsible for implementing the Children and Learning Directorate Workforce Development Strategy which sets out our plan for future-proofing the workforce as an enabler to delivering the best services for our children.

Our aims;

  • Maintain a stable children's workforce that is highly skilled and able to deliver high quality services
  • provide a safe, stable and supportive work environment underpinned by a clear model of multi-systemic and relational practice
  • ensure a diverse, multi-skilled workforce utilising all its skills via a robust recruitment and workforce development strategy
  • provide workers with opportunities for individual learning and professional development linked to clear pathways for career progression
  • deliver on Camden's objective to be a learning organisation in pursuit of excellence
  • champion the children's workforce within the council.
