Partnership working

Safeguarding children requires multi-agency cooperation and CSFH works closely with many agencies in order to deliver services to improve outcomes for children and families. These documents set out the agreed protocols for joint working with partner agencies in children’s and adults services and other council departments.

Young people entering the criminal justice system often have an underlying, complex set of needs that require a joint response from Youth Justice Services and CSSW and may be known to both services.

The YJS-CSSW protocol should be followed by YJS workers and social workers whenever YJS and CSFH are working jointly with a child.

Where a looked after child enters the criminal justice system, CSFH and YJS services will work in partnership to ensure the child is not disadvantaged by their looked after status; procedures are set out in the CLA in the criminal justice system policy and procedures.

Where a young person is remanded into the care of the local authority by a criminal court, they will become looked after. CSFH and YJS will need to work in partnership following the Remanded into local authority care policy and procedures to ensure that all duties owed to the child under care planning regulations are met.

Where a child is detained in police custody, there is a duty on local authorities to provide a suitable placement (known as a PACE bed) so that the child is not detained in custody overnight. Camden follows the London Safeguarding Children Partnership protocol that sets out the procedures for police and social care services in order to ensure the child is accommodated overnight.
