Mental health

Parental mental ill health and substance misuse are factors that can have a negative impact on parenting capacity and often co-exist. Children and young people may be adversely affected by their parent's mental ill health or substance misuse but may also experience difficulties themselves with mental ill health and substance misuse.

Research shows that the majority of lifelong mental health issues start in childhood and adolescence, and that maltreatment and traumatic experiences during childhood are strongly linked to poor mental health outcomes.

For an overview of the law relating to children’s mental health, including consent for treatment, please see the CYP mental health guide for social workers.

Social workers who have concerns about the mental health and wellbeing of a child they work with should refer to the CSCP multi-agency protocol on children’s mental health for details of referrals to services and working with partner agencies to improve mental health outcomes for children.

ALL referrals into Camden CAMHS must be made on the CAMHS referral form on MOSAIC. Social workers should follow the MOSAIC guidance for information on how to access the form on MOSAIC.

The form should be completed on MOSAIC and emailed to CAMHS ([email protected]) as a PDF whenever you need to make a referral.

Social workers can contact CAMHS admin on one of the following numbers for help in completing the form:
