Family Group Conferences (FGCs)

Family Group Conferences (FGCs)

FGCs are specialist meetings that allow families to get involved in making decisions and plans and resolving issues. For looked after children FGCs can help families explore alternative care arrangements for children and agree support for family and friends carers.

A FGC can be considered for any family who already has involvement with CSFH where a plan needs to be made for a child.

Social workers should refer to the Family Group Conference practice guidance for details on when to convene conferences and the procedures for linking with the FGC service to arrange conferences and prepare families.

For further information, social workers can refer to the Family Rights Group guidance on FGCs in care proceedings.
