Family and friends care for looked after children

Where a child is looked after by Camden, Camden will always explore the possibility of the child being cared for by a family and friends carer in the first instance. Where a suitable family and friends carer is identified, they will be assessed and approved as a Camden foster carer for the child.

Sometimes social workers may wish to place children with family and friends carers outside England and Wales.

The Placements outside England and Wales policy sets out the steps that need to be taken.

Social workers can also approach Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB) for advice on arranging family and friends placements abroad. Their international kinship care guidance contains information for social workers who are exploring placement options with family abroad.
