Services for care experienced young people

Services for care experienced young people

Camden has a duty to provide services and support to young people leaving the care system so that they are able to make a successful transition to adulthood. As a good corporate parent, Camden aims to offer suitable support to care experienced young people as they make their first steps towards independence.

Between the ages of 16 and 18, Camden must help CLA prepare for the transition to adulthood. Once CLA are discharged from care at 18, they will continue to receive support and services as long as they are eligible up to the age of 25.

Social workers should refer to the Leaving care and transition policy.

Practice guidance on supporting care experienced young people t from 16 to 25 can be found in the Supporting care experienced young people practice guidance.

On reaching 18, young people will be transferred to the Care Experienced service. Social workers and personal advisors should refer to the Transfer to Leaving Care protocol for more information.

Personal advisors can also access the Research in Practice online learning resource Supporting care leavers to succeed
