Special Education Needs

Special Education Needs

Many children known to the CYPDS will have special educational needs arising from their disability, and the CYPDS will work in partnership with schools and Camden's Special Educational Needs (SEN) service to ensure their needs are met and that they are able to participate in education.

Children and young people with complex special educational needs will be entitled to a statutory SEN service.

Statutory SEN services are delivered by the Special Educational Needs team.

The team is responsible for the following:

  • carrying out statutory assessments for Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans and overseeing the EHC planning system;

  • commissioning specialist school provision for children whose needs mean they are unable to access mainstream education;

  • providing transport for children to ensure accessibility to school provision;

  • providing an educational psychology service to help children improve their learning;

  • commissioning and agreeing residential provision via the Complex Needs Panel in line with the Local offer residential education policy.
