Special Education Needs

Special Education Needs

Many children known to the CYPDS will have special educational needs arising from their disability, and the CYPDS will work in partnership with schools and Camden's Special Educational Needs (SEN) service to ensure their needs are met and that they are able to participate in education.

Where a child has a high level of special educational needs, an EHC plan may be needed to ensure the right provision is put in place to meet these needs and support their education.

The EHC assessment and planning process is a statutory process overseen by case workers in the SEN team with decisions on assessment and planning taken by the EHC Panel.

EHC plans are based on multi-agency assessments involving professionals from education, health and social care to provide a holistic assessment of the child's needs and setting out the provision to meet these needs.

More information on EHC plans can be found on the Camden SEND local offer website

Information on how the CYPDS works with the SEN service where a child has special educational needs can be found in the SEN policy.

Social workers who have been requested by SEN services to carry out a social care assessment for EHC plans should refer to the EHCP guidance for Camden social care staff for full details.
