Service description and delivery

Camden’s Children and Young People’s Disability Service (CYPDS) is the main provider of statutory social care services for children and young people aged 0-25 with complex needs arising from their disability.

The CYPDS provides a statutory social work service for children with disabilities.

However, most children known to the CYPDS will receive services and support via the Short Breaks Panel and will not have an allocated social worker.

The following children will have an allocated social worker who will be the lead professional within the child's professional network and who will be responsible for assessing their needs and implementing and reviewing their plan:

  • children with complex medical needs requiring a high level of social care support
  • children who are looked after due to the complexity of their needs arising from their disability
  • families requiring extra support from social workers because of concerns about parenting capacity and who reach the threshold for a child in need service
  • children who are at risk of significant harm requiring a child protection intervention.
