Visits and engagement with families

Child protection cases require a high level of monitoring and oversight in order to manage and reduce risk. It is therefore essential that social workers see the child regularly and are able to engage families in working to implement the child protection plan.

It is vital that parents and children (where appropriate) are given enough information about the child protection process so that they can understand what is going on.

Leaflets on child protection from section 47 investigations through to the review conference are available for parents and children.

Parents attending case conferences should have access to the support of an advocate and should be given the CP advocacy leaflet explaining this.
