Multi-agency Public Protection (MAPPA)

Multi-agency Public Protection (MAPPA)

It is a statutory requirement for local authorities to have Multi-agency public protection arrangements (MAPPA) in place in order to manage ex-offenders who continue to pose a risk to the public.

MAPP arrangements are multi-agency procedures involving information sharing in order to manage risk from individuals, including individuals who pose a risk to children.

MAPP arrangements involve regular meetings between Police, Probation and local authorities, including children's social care, to discuss cases involving individuals who have served sentences for sexual and violent offences who are about to leave prison and who may continue to pose a risk to the public. The purpose of the MAPP meeting is to draw up a plan to manage this risk in the community. MAPPA guidance sets out joint working arrangements in place.
