CP orders

Sometimes it may be necessary to take immediate action to safeguard a child because they are at immediate risk of serious harm. Social workers should be aware of legal orders such as Police Protection Orders and Emergency Protection Orders as well as checks that police can carry out on adults caring for a child.

In some circumstances, CSFH can ask for the Police to carry out checks on an adult in connection with safeguarding a child.

The Police checks policy sets out the circumstances when social workers can request checks on adults who are caring for a child or live in the same household as part of a section 47 investigation.

These are checks of the Police National Computer showing whether the person is known to the police and are separate to DBS checks.

Requests should be via the Police form 87b (child protection enquiry information request form)
