CP orders

Sometimes it may be necessary to take immediate action to safeguard a child because they are at immediate risk of serious harm. Social workers should be aware of legal orders such as Police Protection Orders and Emergency Protection Orders as well as checks that police can carry out on adults caring for a child.

EPOs allow CSFH to remove a child to a place of safety for up to 8 days.

Where the child is at risk of immediate harm, CSFH can apply to the court for an EPO which allows CSFH to remove the child and look after them for up to 8 days while assessments are carried out and a decision made on whether the child can be safely returned home. The order can also be used to ensure a child remains in a place of safety, for example to stop them being removed from hospital.

For further information please see the Child protection orders policy.
