Unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC)

Unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC)

UASC are children under the age of 18 who are seeking asylum in the UK on their own behalf because they have been separated from their parents and/or they are not being cared for by any adult who by law or custom has responsibility to do so.

The following organisations and resources can provide information and support to staff working with UASC.

The Refuge Council - for general information for UASC and the asylum process

The British Red Cross - for tracing family members

The Children's Society - support for UASC and those who work with them

Young Minds - supporting the mental wellbeing of UASC with information for young people, carers and professionals

Young Roots - providing support for young refugees

This guide to who's who of those people working with UASC has been written by young asylum seekers and sets out the roles of all the professionals they are likely to be in contact with.
