Missing children

Missing children

Going missing is a key indicator that something is wrong in a child’s life; going missing is also a key factor in child exploitation as it provides opportunities for exploiters to groom the child or may indicate that the child is already being exploited.

Children who are missing from education are at risk of poor educational outcomes and going missing from school may be an indication of safeguarding concerns or exploitation.

Social workers should be aware of children they work with being off roll, being home educated or frequently being absent from school. Social workers should be aware of their role in implementing the procedures followed by schools and Camden Learning when a child is missing from education, and work with partners in order to ensure the child is receiving a suitable education.
