Care proceedings

Some permanence options for children who cannot return home may involve seeking a care order or other court order via care proceedings.

The Care Pathways Panel is the forum for oversight, discussion and decision making for cases where care proceedings are being considered.

The Panel considers cases where legal advice has been obtained following a legal planning meeting and where the threshold for a care order has been reached. The Panel will then decide on the next steps, which may include entering pre-proceedings or issuing proceedings immediately.

The Care Pathways Panel policy sets out the criteria for referral to the Panel and the steps to be taken on cases going to Panel in terms of seeking legal planning meetings and obtaining advice from Legal Services.
