The Social Work Profession

The Social Work Profession

“Social workers aim to improve people’s lives by helping with social and interpersonal difficulties, promoting human rights and wellbeing. Social workers protect children and adults with support needs from harm. From helping keep a family under pressure together to supporting someone with mental health problems, social work is a varied, demanding, often emotional and very rewarding career.” British Association of Social Workers

To register and practice as a social worker, you must be able to demonstrate that you have met the required standards of knowledge and experience during training and continue to develop these throughout your career.

All social work education is based around the professional capabilities framework and the Knowledge and Skills Statement that provides the framework for social work education and professional development.  These set out the required standards of knowledge, skills and experience needed in order to qualify and the requirements for Continued Professional Development in order to retain registration status as a social worker and progress on the Camden career pathway.

Camden’s core training programme is aligned to the framework and the Knowledge and Skills Statements.
