Induction and probation

Induction and probation

Induction is a planned programme of events and learning designed to introduce new workers to Camden and prepare them to carry out their role.

Probation is the period at the beginning of employment where workers are assessed and supported to ensure they are able to meet required standards and fulfil their role.

All permanent staff joining Camden are subject to a 6 month probationary period.

During the probation period, staff are assessed on their performance and conduct by their supervisor. This applies to all new staff (except agency staff) including those joining Camden from other local authorities. However, newly qualified social workers will be subject to a 12 month probation period as part of their Assessed and Supported Year of Employment (ASYE).

The probationary period is used to determine the suitability of the employee to the post and supervisors should use the induction period to ensure social workers are given every opportunity to fit into their role.

Please see the Camden probation policies for more details.
